“Be A Sweetheart” Show MFW20
Milan Fashion Week 2020 and HOMI offer an amazing opportunity to explore the heart in jewelry from the 20th century to our days. A lot of emerging and established international designers are showcasing their “hearts” to the world! ... Let’s do this exciting journey together! Here are some highlights :)
Golden vintage tones keep on evolving into a much more colorful palette and texture.

Precious stones and crystals don’t really seem to belong in this century. The new gems are much more “humble” and are made of ceramic, porcelain, and resin.
Then (Hobé, 40s)
Now (Peter Hoogeboom, 2017)
Contemporary jewelry lives off the diversity of materials (paper, rubber, porcelain, plastic, fabric, leather, tiny vintage objects) and the techniques used (3D printing , cutting , papier mâché - to name a few).
(Verde Alfieri, 2019)
(Olivia Monti Arduini, 2019)
(Maison203, 2013)
Knitting seems to be experiencing a second birth - look at these gorgeous broshes! The shape is truly subliminal ;)
(Felieke Van Der Leest, 1996)
There’s a powerful shift from being just a form of embellishment to delivering a strong message.
Contemporary jewelry is an invitation to reflect... The necklace that impressed me the most in terms of its content is “Cuore palpitante” by Mara Garbin made of recycled cardiograms. This peace literally carries the vibrant stories of people’s hearts. A quick reminder of how fragile our life is, and how attentive we should be about our routine checkups :)
Last but not least ... The heart shape itself evolved as well - from the classic one we all know to smth that goes beyond any possible imagination: abstract, aesthetic and - in many cases - very anatomic.
Then (Missoni, 80s)
Now (RiVa Jewels by Allegra Pazienti, 2019)
(Matteo Di Paola, 2013)
And what’s your favorite jewel? Where does your heart belong?…;)
